I had planned a trip to spend Easter with Daisy's family in Kansas. My original trip took me from Newark to O'Hare to Wichita going there on Friday and from Wichita to St. Louis to Newark on the way back on Monday. The biggest mistake I made was flying through Chicago in what can still be considered a time for winter weather. I had checked in online and went to bed early in order to catch an early train to Newark. For some reason I received a call from American Airlines at around 11:30 PM. I didn't answer, but I couldn't go back to sleep without knowing what is going on. I went online to see what was happening and found out that my flight from O'Hare to Wichita was cancelled. I called back and found out that I was already rebooked on a flight from Newark to Dallas to Wichita. I then checked those flights and saw that I would probably be on standby on both flights. I was tired and decided I would catch the first train to Newark to try and get it straightened out. I tried to go back to bed but discovered I couldn't go back to sleep. I catch the train without any trouble. When I got to the airport I went and saw what they could do. They put me back on to the original flight to O'Hare and then a later flight to Wichita. I went through security. Just as they are about to board, they announce Chicago is getting a winter storm and the flight would be delayed for at least an hour and a half. I finally get to Chicago, but I can't see the status of my flight. I call Daisy and tell her to go ahead and head down to Wichita to pick me up. When my flight comes up on the screen I see that my flight was cancelled. I go and make sure that I'm on standby for the only flight to Wichita that hasn't been cancelled. My name comes on the list and I'm third. I tell Daisy to go ahead and turn back not thinking that I would get on. I talk to the agent and see if they could at least get me confirmed on a flight. The next flight wouldn't be until Sunday. They suggested that I talk to a travel agent because they couldn't find any other flights. I call and suggest another airport. They get me on a flight to Kansas City. I go to the agent to see if they could print out my ticket and they said I would have to go back through security. About this time the airport declares a weather emergency and nothing comes in or out. I get my ticket and call Daisy to tell her to head to Kansas City. I go back to find that my flight was delayed an hour. I finally get to leave to Chicago after about 5 inches of snow have fallen. I get to Kansas City and have to wait a little bit for Daisy and her family to get there. By the time we are all together it was late and there was no point in trying to drive back. We looked for a place in Kansas City, but we couldn't find anywhere. We end up staying the night in Lawrence, KS. The next morning we left for Osborne. The rest of the weekend turned out really nice. We were able pick out the tuxes and me the pastor. I was also able to meet her mom's family. Riding ATV's in Kansas is a lot of fun. Daisy and I go to get our marriage license on Monday, and she notices that her tire is a little flat. We go to get it taken care of and discover that there was a nail in it. We get to Wichita and my flight was actually on time. I get to St. Louis without any trouble. I get to my gate and discover that I have to check my bag. The previous flight had a plane the same size and I didn't have to check my bag. I get to Newark at around 11 PM and I just miss the train. I wait about an hour and catch the next one. By the time I get back it is about 1:30 AM. I am tired of flying.

Engaged!!!

The day has finally come. I have found the woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with. Daisy and I got engaged around 10 PM on November 23. We both knew it was coming (since I took Daisy to pick some rings that she liked). I had went out and bought the ring about two weeks before I was going to propose. I was originally thinking I would do it when she came out in December, but I couldn't wait that long. I put it in my carry-on and took it with me to Amarillo, TX. From there Daisy and I drove to Pampa, TX to pick up her Grandma and then drove to her brother's house in Dodge City, KS. After we got there I met all her family at once. We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner, and I got to know her family. The next day most of the family got up to go shopping very early in the morning. I decided it was the perfect time to ask her dad for permission to marry her. I got the ok, but I didn't have the chance to do anything until that night. Daisy and I were alone playing a game. When I could no longer hold it in I got down beside her. We both knew what was happening. I did the best I could to get on my somewhat good knee and told her how special she was to me. She said yes and we had our first kiss. I know it wasn't very fancy, but both of us were so happy to finally be engaged. We have already talked about a June wedding down in Texas, but I guess that information will come a little bit later.

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

I decided to post even though my heart is at a low point. Daisy came this weekend to be with me. I can't think of anything nicer than being with her, but it always hurts when either of us have to leave. I am trying to fix that right now. I have applied to a few places in Dallas and also in Amarillo. I have also had some people in the Army looking for places where I can transfer. I can't wait to be down there. My prayer request is that God will show me where He wants me to go according to His time. I am planning on flying to Texas over Thanksgiving. From there Daisy and I will drive to Dodge City, KS. The next time I'll be in Ohio is over Christmas. I have been flying so much. I should have a free flight pretty soon. I am happy at church except when I wanted to argue about reformed theology. Time has gone so fast. The past seems like one event and it's hard to think what has happened since the last time I posted.

Saturday, August 25, 2007

I thought I'd share a couple of additions to my life. One of the more important ones is Daisy. She is from Kansas, but she will be moving to Texas. I met her at Colts Neck Baptist Church. We have been dating since May 21. I couldn't be happier with the time that I've spent with her.

The second addition is a tattoo that I've been wanting to get for a few years. I got it back in April or May I think. I'm happy with my decision to get it.

This is where Nebuchadnezzar built the image of gold. Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego were told to bow down before it. They said
either God would deliver them from death or they would die, but they
wouldn't bow down to the statue. We are all told to bow down to
certain things, even if they are not always gold statues. When we
refuse to do so, sometimes God will protect us from the fire and we
will come out untouched. Other times we may feel the flames. It
doesn't mean that God doesn't care. His will is so much greater than
ours, and He knows what is best for us. When I graduated, I wasn't
sure what I wanted to do. For a while I thought about going to
seminary, but God had different plans for my life. The happiest I have
been was when I was over in Macedonia or the south side of Chicago
doing inner city work. I thought about STINT or some other kind of
missions, but God said not yet. I some how ended up 600 miles from
home doing something that is not related to seminary or missions, but
my view is so small. I've had some doubt why God has placed me here,
but I can see how it might work out. For missionaries that are going
long term there are a couple of requirements that I don't meet yet.
You have to be at least 24 and an active member at a Southern Baptist
church for at least 3 years. The last church I went to was Reformed
Baptist, so that doesn't really count. By the time the fort closes, I
will be over 24 and a member for about 4 years. I don't know if this
is God's will, but I'm willing to let Him use me.

Monday, March 26, 2007

The last time I was in Ohio was over Christmas. I flew back and spent a total of four days. There were a couple of events that happened within the last week that couldn't keep me away, and I spent a total of ten days at home. Since I was going to spend such a long time, I decided to drive back. It is a good thing that I decided to since my flight would have been canceled. I started off driving in sleet. Once in Pennsylvania it began the transformation to snow (I hate driving in Pennsylvania at night). I spent most of the time in Pennsylvania going 45 or less. Once I got to the West Virginia/Ohio border, everything stopped. It ended up taking 12 hours to get home. I immediately went to bed because I had to drive to Dayton in the morning. I went to Matt and Ashley's wedding. It was beautiful and I was able to see some friends that I haven't seen in almost a year. On Sunday my mom, sister, and I drove up to Ada in order to surprise my Grandma at church. I was able to visit my Grandpa on Monday. He was very happy to see me. On Tuesday I spent the day with my dad. We went to the National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, went to Young's in Yellow Springs, and saw a hockey game in Dayton. Friday was the rehearsal for my sister's wedding. Everything went well. Saturday was the big day. The wedding went pretty smooth. Although there were some things about the reception that weren't great, it also was a good time. I think there was a conspiracy between Mike and the dj to try and make me turn red. I caught the garter, but that wasn't the end. I enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including having meals with a couple of very special women. I wasn't ready to leave, but I had to come back this morning. It only took me nine hours, but it seemed longer than when I came. I can't wait to come back in June.

Lima Baptist Temple

Saturday, February 17, 2007

The same storm that brought blizzards to Ohio left about 2 inches of snow and a half inch of ice in New Jersey. It was enough to close the Fort. My day off would have been more enjoyable if not for something that usually comes with ice storms, power outages. I took this picture just after 5, and you can see how dark it is. I ended up loosing power just after 10 in the morning and getting it back just after 7 at night for a grand total of 9 hours. I spent a lot of the day reading. When I was desperate to get out, I walked to the local Starbucks (I got hot chocolate). When it got dark, I was reading Piper by flashlight.

During this time I was able to discover some things in Genesis. I found out that Methuselah died the same year as the flood. Methuselah was also the only person mentioned from Adam to Noah to live to that time. Adam also died 126 years before the birth of Noah. I also noticed how worthless stuff becomes without electricity. I immediately thought of Ecclesiastes 1:2. Pieces of electronic equipment that can cost hundreds of dollars become worthless in something as simple as a power outage. Why waste your time on stuff like this? Why pursue after something that can easily break? God will be there no matter the situation.

I was also able to think about what some of the guys at work said to me. I was told that they thought I was Catholic because here you're either Catholic or Jewish. Another one of the guys thought that I was Jewish because of my last name. John and Paul both warned about false brothers. Back then they had to worry about Gnosticism, but we have something that is much more dangerous, materialism. There are people that try to sell the gospel for money (2 Corinthians 2:17). They make you think that you have to do something special to receive God's blessing. They preach that God will take away all your troubles. You just have to buy their book to find out how. It is just like what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 11:5. There are "super preachers" that worry about how many people come to their services, but they are blind to the condition of the souls. I saw a BMW with an Ichthys and my soul wept. How many missionaries could have been sent if that person had bought a regular car! Don't sell the gospel for something that won't last!

We also have to look out for people like Demetrius in 3 John. We are told to test the spirits (1 John 4:1-6). There are people that masquerading as Christians, but they are in the dark (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Satan is clever. He's not going to try and draw people away by being as evil as he can. He is going to make it look as much as Christianity as possible. Beware of people to speak about a gospel that you haven't heard, or tell you that it is ok to pursue after things on the earth. They will show you how God wants you to be rich, but Paul was as poor as he could be. They will call themselves Christians, but they won't bear fruit. One birth won't make you a Christian. You have to have two! People often form their opinions of what Christianity is on these people. Show them the truth.

Sunday, February 04, 2007

Six Weird Things About Me

1. I can eat lemons and limes without making a face.

2. I enjoy the bitter cold.

3. I remember how to play songs from marching band in high school.

4. I can eat weird combinations of food.

5. I keep my music in alphabetical order.

6. I use my leg for a practice pad.

Sunday, December 31, 2006

It was great to be back in Ohio, even if it was for a little bit. I sure am glad God was watching over me.

There was a two hour early release on Friday.

Once I got on the parkway, the traffic wasn't that bad.

Even though I almost missed them, I was able to make all my exits.

I didn't follow the exact directions, but I still made it to the airport.

I was able to find my way around the airport.

I went to the right terminal.

I was able to check my baggage in less than 15 minutes.

I was able to get through security with not much trouble.

Even though my flight was delayed for 2 hours, it wasn't canceled.

I bought one of the last tickets on the plane.

There were around a dozen people that didn't make it.

I had a safe flight with only a few bumps.

My luggage was there to meet me in Columbus.

I was able to see some of my family and some I didn't expect to see.

I had safe travel while in Ohio.

I again had an easy time at the airport.

My flight was delayed for 2 hours again, but it wasn't canceled.

I had a great flight back to Newark.

My luggage and my car were there to greet me.

I found the right bus to the parking lot.

I had enough money to pay for parking since they only took Discover.

I was able to find my way back even though I didn't have directions.

I was able to get back before 11 PM.

Even though some parts didn't exactly feel like it at the time, God was watching out for me during the entire trip. Only 11 more weeks until I come back.
